Counting Down – 8 & 7 Days to the Start of the Last Desert Race in Antarctica

Running San Francisco

Friday, 24 October 2014 & Saturday, 25 October 2014

Greetings from San Francisco

I love running in San Francisco. It is a city with reminds me a lot about Cape Town given its natural beauty (minus the mountain) – on one side you have the Pacific Ocean and on the other San Francisco Bay, beautiful views of the Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and Treasure Island, and let’s not forget the hills (think about all the high speed car chases in the movies!). There are more than 50 hills in the city, and many of them have a serious “sting in the tail”.

Over the past few years I’ve also had the opportunity to run many of the beautiful trails to the north and east of the city.

This is my last weekend in San Francisco and also the last before we depart for Antarctica next Saturday. So, there is very little time left for final training and preparations, and I used this morning for a nice 20km run from Union Square (in the centre of the city) to close to Golden Gate Bridge and then all along the waterfront back to my hotel.

It is great to run in a beautiful setting such as San Francisco without any pressure. I have completed my training and preparations for the Last Desert Race, and it is now time to just enjoy the final few days before getting on the ship to Antarctica.

I feel good about my fitness and preparations for the race, and excited about what lies ahead.

The countdown to Antarctica continues…

I’m excited about the race in Antarctica and the challenge of raising R250 000 for a Greenpeace Africa solar energy project, and encourage you to support my efforts and the work of Greenpeace Africa!

Please make a donation and encourage others to do the same.

“Together we can make a difference!”

Follow updates about my preparations for The Last Desert Race, and work with Greenpeace Africa, on Facebook and Twitter, my daily blog, and via Greenpeace Africa’s  various online platforms.
